School Food Pantry: The Sacred Heart St. Vincent de Paul conference thanks YOU for your support to our ministry. Over the past year, we have successfully opened a Food Pantry in our school for those school families needing assistance. We have partnered with the Food Bank of Iowa to provide supplemental food for those families in need whom are identified and approved of by school administration. With this program we are hoping to alleviate household stress and enhance learning for children by providing assistance to the entire household. These families are hard working, humble and grateful people that just need some assistance in a time of need. We are humbled by this opportunity to serve.
We would like to profusely thank the Women’s Guild for their donations to this project! None of this would be possible without the great people of Sacred Heart and their generous ministries!

*Since being established in Des Moines in 1924, the main focus of St. Vincent de Paul’s work is to assist those living in poverty become self-sufficient by removing barriers to success. The Des Moines Council operates two thrift stores, two social services departments, two food pantries and an education center. In 2017 over 102,000 clients were served with education, food, clothing, furniture, financial assistance, and childwatch.
*Blessed Frederic Ozanam was founder of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Frederic was a husband and father, professor and servant of the poor. He founded the Society of St. Vincent de Paul as a young student with others of the Sorbonne in Paris. Sister Rosalie Rendu, a Daughter of Charity, is considered a mentor of Frederic and of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul as she taught the first members the art of helping the poor and the sick. Frederic's writings on social justice anticipated the first social encyclical of our modern times, Rerum Novarum.
