Please join our Polish community on Holy Saturday, April 19th, at 12:00 noon for a short celebration of this centuries old, beloved Polish tradition!
Everyone is welcome! Please bring your families and friends, especially children, to make typical Polish Easter memories. We are looking forward to sharing this blessing with everyone!
Please bring your basket containing a sampling of Easter foods covered or wrapped in a white cloth. According to Polish tradition, these foods, which each having a symbolic meaning, are represented in the basket:
eggs - symbolize life and Christ's resurrection
bread - symbolic of Jesus, the Bread of Life
lamb (or butter lamb) - represents Christ
salt - represents purification
horseradish - symbolic of the bitter sacrifice by Christ
ham - symbolic of great joy and abundance
Father Emmanuel will bless the baskets, with special prayers for each of the categories of food. According to tradition, the food blessed in the church on Holy Saturday remains untouched until Sunday morning, when it is served for breakfast.
