Baptism has been a part of what we do as Catholics from the very beginning of our church. The Sacrament of Baptism is called the “gateway to the life in the Spirit” since the reception of Baptism is necessary to receive all other Sacraments. (CCC 1213) Both adults and infants may receive the gift of the Sacrament of Baptism.
Infant Baptism: Our Catholic church recognizes the priceless gift of Baptism for each child. As a parent, through Baptism, you invite the Holy Spirit into the life of your child. As nurturers of the life God has entrusted to you, Baptism is the initial step in your child’s journey of faith. To prepare for the Baptism of your child, parents must attend a class before scheduling the Baptism. At Sacred Heart, classes are held each month in both English and Spanish. Contact Tonia Martin to baptise your child.
Adult Baptism: If you are an adult preparing for your own Baptism, you must undergo a period of preparation before receiving the Sacrament. This preparation is called the catechumenate and is designed to bring the faith of the candidate to maturity. Through the process, the catechumen is exposed to the life of faith, the liturgy and the love of the people of God through the rites of initiation. CLICK HERE to learn more about becoming Catholic.
