Lent is a season of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Our parish community gathered throughout the day on Ash Wednesday, March 5, to worship together as we prepare ourselves for the coming of Our Lord, Jesus Christ. CLICK HERE to see all that is happening at Sacred Heart Church during the season of Lent.
At all the Masses on March 1-2, Teresa Dunbar spoke to us about the good work that is accomplished through Catholic Relief Services (CRS). Teresa mentioned Thomas Awiapo in her talk. Take some time to watch the story of Thomas.
At Sacred Heart Church on March 1, our RCIA Candidates and Catechumens signed the Book of the Elect during the Rite of Sending in preparation for the Rite of Election to be held at the Cathedral the weeked of March 8. Let us give them the assurance of our blessings and our prayers as they go forth for recognition by the Bishop. CLICK HERE to learn more about RCIA and adult faith at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
The new directories have arrived! If you took a picture to be included in the directory this past summer, you have a copy waiting for you! The directories can be picked up in the office weekdays between 8-3:30. The directories look great! Thank you to all the volunteers who participated in the giant undertaking of creating a new directory!
Sunday, February 2 was Scout Sunday, celebrated at the 9:30 am Mass. In addition to celebrating scouting, the scouts helped at the monthly pancake breakfast held by the Knights of Columbus. The pancake breakfast, was as usual, well attended by hard working knights, the helpful scouts, and the happy eaters! It was great to have the extra help to serve and cook from the scouts. Watch the bulletin or this web site to know when the knights will serve another great breakfas!
On January 22, the confirmation candidates spent the afternoon at a confirmation retreat. The day began with Mass, followed by a day of learning mixed in with great fun. The emphasis was to learn a little more about Jesus Christ, His life, and why that is important to each of us. Confirmation candidates have been meeting about once a month in preparation for Confirmation which will take place on October 12, 2014. Please pray for our Confirmation candidates!
The Knights of Columbus presented four $1,200 checks to the worthy organizations listed here on Monday, January 20. The four were: Brian Farrell, Bishop Drumm Center; Christy Jennings, Link Associations; Gene Hildreth and Tina Ballou, Ruby Van Meter School; and Cheri Burns, Child Serve.
Thank you to the groups who helped each night of the Parish Mission by providing snacks and food! A different group took responsibilty for each night. Monday was the Knights of Columbus; Tuesday was Hispanic Ministries, and Wednesday, the Women's Guild provided a yummy dinner. No one went home hungry!
