Each year, the Knights of Columbus and Women's Guild gather together for a Christmas Celebration. This year, the Christmas gathering was Monday, December 15. The entertainment included members of the 8th grade band from Sacred Heart School. Both the Knights of Columbus and Women's Guild do great work to help people who are in need, and to support the organizations and groups at both Sacred Heart Church and Sacred Heart School. We send them a huge heartfelt thank you!
Sunday, December 14 was Bambellini Sunday and we celebrated at Sacred Heart! We are all familiar with the Nativity, displayed in all our houses from Advent through Christmas, but did you know it was created by St. Francis in the 1200s? Bambellini Sunday began much later, started by St. John Paul II during his papacy. On Bambellini Sunday, children bring the Baby Jesus figurine from the family Nativity to Mass to be blessed. When they return home, they place Baby Jesus under the Christmas tree. Our current Pope Francis continues the tradition. This year, the celebration at Mass on Bambellini Sunday was followed by a pancake breakfast provided by our Knights of Columbus. Special visitors included St. Nicholas, St. Lucy and Blessed Juan Diego (not pictured here).
Friday, December 12 was the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. At Sacred Heart, over 800 people gathered to take part in the celebration! Beginning at the school, all gathered to pray the Rosary and a Novena, and processed to the church, led my Father Fabian Moncada. Following the Eucharistic Celebration of the Mass, participants were treated to a reenactment of the apparition in the parish center and a celebration in the school including traditional Hispanic dancers, a Mariachi band, and great food! On Monday, December 1 and Sunday, December 7, over 100 students from Sacred Heart School and Children's Faith Formation celebrated the sacrament of forgivness at First Reconciliation. These children will also be celebrating First Eucharist in April and May at special Masses. Please continue to pray for our young Catholics. This is a special time for our students, and for their families as well, since parents play an invaluable role in teaching their children the ways of our Catholic faith.
Advent begins on Sunday, November 30. To learn more about Advent, CLICK HERE.
During the 11:15 Mass on Sunday, November 2, parishioners of Sacred Heart Church gathered to remember loved ones lost during the year. Family members each carried a candle with a name and placed it in front of the altar. The glow from so many candles was a beautiful reminder of the love of Christ, and of those we cherish and miss.
