Our building project is underway! Sacred Heart Church | Ground BreakingIf you haven't noticed, we are doing some construction to our school. We are creating a new multi-purpose meeting room for both church and school by remodeling the current kindergarten classrooms. The kindergarten classes will move into the new addition on the northeast side of the building, along with two new preschool classrooms. For the first time, we will be offering a developmental kindergarten class. This project is slated for completion by the start of school in the fall of 2015.

Sacred Heart Church | CRSOn Monday, April 20, Teresa Dunbar of Catholic Relief Services (and a member of Sacred Heart Parish) gave a presentation to the Knights of Columbus at the monthly meeting about the good work done for people all over the world by CRS. Each year,  members of Student Ministry Sacred Heart Church | SMASHat Sacred Heart (SMASH) attend mission trips, ski trips, and this year, the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) in Indianapolis. To help fund their adventures, Deanna Lane (Director of Youth Ministry) and her team put together various fund-raising opportunities for students who wish to attend events and want to earn their own way! Pictured here are Deanna and two SMASH members who have been selling jewelry after Mass. CLICK HERE to learn more about upcoming events for SMASH.

Sacred Heart Church | GIFTOn April 16, Sacred Heart was host to the Iowa Catholic Radio Spring Mosaic Women's Luncheon. The colorful table decorations of spring-like flowers set the tone for a truly inspriational event. The guest speaker was Kelly Wahlquist, the current assistant director of the Harry J. Flynn Catechetical Institute in St. Paul, Minnesota. Kelly also worked with Jeff Cavins of the Great Adventure Bible Timeline. Kelly's enthusastic style encouraged us, as women, to know the Holy Spirit, participate in a Bible study, and take Eucharist regularly. At Sacred Heart, we offer the Bible Timeline. Holy Week at Sacred Heart wasSacred Heart Church | Easter both beautiful and inspiring. Each year the season of Lent puts us into an introspective mood, Holy week reminds us of the tenents of our faith, and Easter morning fills our hearts with joyful singing at the Resurrection of our Lord. Thank you to everyone who worked long hours with tender love and care to create a beautiful week of celebrations! Happy Easter!

Sacred Heart Church | Holy WeekThe parishioners of Sacred Heart Church continued the journey through Holy Week on April 2 with the Mass of the Lord's Supper. The crowded church was filled with the faithful who participated in the richly symbolic liturgy and last Eucharistic celebration until Easter Vigil. The Blessed Sacrament was processed into the parish center for Adoration and where it remained until 7 pm Friday. Adoration continued until 7 pm Friday, April 3.

The celebrations that begin on Sacred Heart Church | Holy WeekThursday and continue Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Holy Week are special and holy in the Catholic Church! On Holy Thursday, April 2 at 7 pm we all participate in the foot washing ceremony to remember when Jesus washed the feet of His disciples at the Last Supper and sent them to go and wash one another's feet as an example of service to others. We are also invited to reverence the Cross in rememberance of His Crucifixion. Adoration will follow in the parish center until 10 pm, and on Friday from 8 am until 7 pm. On Good Friday, April 3 at 7 pm our teens will present a powerful reenactment of the Lord's Passion. Easter Vigil begins at 8 pm on April 4. At this beautiful service we welcome new  memebers who have been preparing through the RCIA process for full communion in the Church.
